OUR MISSION

The Mission of SORIAN-DO is to enhance the quality of life of our students, their families, and our community by encouraging the only discipline that will always be with them: self-discipline. By supporting the efforts of parents and community, we desire to provide students with a positive self-image and strong moral character.

OUR VALUES

Students

We will offer the best instruction possible, helping students of all ages and levels reach their full potential not only as martial artists, but as individuals. We offer innovative martial arts training concepts for both the mind and the body, with emphasis on the development of discipline, respect, dedication and good moral character.

Integrity

The foundation of SORIAN-DO is our integrity. We are open, honest and trustworthy in our practice.

Excellence

Our students and instructors strive towards excellence in everything we do, every day.

Safety

We train in a realistic way, but in a manner that protects and promotes the health and well-being of our students.

Accountability

We are accountable – individually and in teams. We strive for results on a public and personal level.

AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

As students progress, they are rewarded for their accomplishments both in and outside the dojo.
SORIAN-DO utilizes the following reward systems:

  • Written/Verbal Praise: in class or one-on-one

  • Recognition Stripes: (for students 12 and under) worn on the belt and awarded for demonstrating power, sharp technique, great katas, etc.

  • Stars: (for students 12 and under) worn on the uniform collar. Red, blue, and gold stars denote character traits such as good sportsmanship, courage, and respect.

  • Chevrons: (for students 13 and over) worn on the uniform sleeve. Presented to students who demonstrate respect, hard work, dedication, and the desire to excel in the martial arts.

  • Progress Stripes: awarded to students once the requirements for that learning block are met

  • Academic Patches: awarded to students with A/B grades or straight As (requires academic report card)

  • Certificates: awarded to students who have performed acts deserving of recognition

  • Excellence Awardsawarded during Belt Tests only

Progress Stripes and other accolades are awarded at an Instructor's discretion.

SELF-DISCIPLINE AND ACCOUNTABILITY

All students are responsible for meeting class requirements, including (but not limited to) arriving on time, bringing the appropriate uniform/equipment to class, and staying on task. Students who do not meet these requirements will be assigned a physical task (push-ups, squats, kicks, splits) to complete before joining the class. This is not given as a punishment, but to help develop self-discipline and accountability.
